In my travels down life’s highways and internet bi-ways, I encounter some really fun, unique and interesting people and ideas.
How fun was it then for the name “Poochsicles” to scroll across the Twitterverse. This is the ice cream man of our youth coming down the street for your pooch!
As Poochsicles tells us, “Your kids arenʼt the only ones who will enjoy a tasty treat from the ice cream man this summer. The Pooch-Sicles & Bark Bites truck is getting ready to hit the streets of Atlanta delivering tasty treats for manʼs best friend.
Pooch-Sicles will be serving up healthy soy, corn and grain free treats made from mostlyorganic ingredients. For as little as $2.00, your pooch can choose from frozen treats and non-frozen, dairy-free baked goods. Pooch-Sicles will also offer other items like poop bags and toys. Canine customers will be able to purchase their treats via a walk-up window on the side of the truck. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.
Pooch-Sicles is the brainchild of Chicago native, Kim Bohstedt. “I am a huge animal lover and activist who wanted to provide healthy treat options for dogs and offer a fun, exciting, and unique experience for their owners,” said Bohstedt.
“After I came up with this idea, I did my research and found that the first ever doggy ice cream truck launched in the UK, then I came across one that opened in LA. I also just heard of one that launched in my hometown of Chicago,” she added. “The response has been very positive, I have had so many people intrigued about my business! They have all asked me to let them know when I will be launching, many of them are already following Pooch-Sicles on Twitter and are fans of thePooch-Sicles and Bark Bites Facebook page! It has had such a good response that I am looking at franchising in the future.”
The brand new Pooch-Sicles truck made its debut at PAWS Atlanta on Saturday, June 25 and is already scheduled to appear at several upcoming events.

More Food Trucks for Pups
Chicago and Atlanta take a bite out of the moveable feast
When we learned about Phydough, a dog-centric food truck in Los Angeles, we thought it was a pretty great idea. Apparently, we weren’t the only ones. Bringing dog food and treats, especially canine ice cream, to the curbs of America appears to be an innovation whose time has come. In the meantime, we’ve learned about a couple other roving treat vans we wanted to tell you about. (And we’d love to know about any more—tell us if there’s one in your city.) This spring, Fido to Go launched a “gourmutt food truck” in Chicago, proffering natural, healthy dog treats, including hand-crafted canine cookies and doggy ice cream. Fido to Go is the brainchild of owner/founders Tracy Werner and Donna Santucci. Werner has owned and operated Natural Pet Market, a health food store for cats and dogs, in Wheaton, Ill., for nearly a decade, and Santucci has been a groomer for several years. Both women are also Red Cross certified in animal CPR and First Aid. Fido to Go’s menu includes grain- and gluten-free baked cookies, whole-wheat biscuits and a variety of frozen treats. Plus, Fido to Go merchandise bags can be repurposed as (biodegradable) pet waste bags. Werner and Santucci are passionate about helping homeless pets and often foster animals themselves. Their business cards double as trading cards, and feature adoptable dogs from local shelters, as well as customers’ four-legged family members. Meanwhile, Kim Bohstedt is in the process of getting her Poochsicles (and Bark Bites) truck ready for the streets of Atlanta. Although she’s a dog-lover, assisted by canine taste-testers at home, this is Bohstedt’s first foray into an animal-centered business. Possibly as soon as next week, Poochsicles will be serving doggie ice cream, all natural, organic, corn-free, soy-free and dairy-free baked goods, as well selling retail items such as poop bags and fetch toys. Fido's Fondness For Chocolate: A Deadly Passion
Easter baskets full of chocolate are for kids, not dogs.
Baskets of chocolate bunnies, chicks and eggs are here. Happy Easter!
Enjoy the treats, but beware pooches with sweet-toothes.
Simply put, chocolate can be poisonous to dogs: It contains caffeine and theobromine, which are deadly to canines.
The antioxidants in dark chocolate are said to be beneficial to humans, but due to the high theobromine content it is even more lethal to dogs than milk chocolate.
Dogs that ingest chocolate may vomit, urinate excessively and have diarrhea, leading to dehydration.
Once the theobromine is absorbed by the canine’s system, it stimulates the central nervous system and can cause rapid heartbeats and hypertension.
A poisoned dog could also have seizures and tremors. These affects vary depending on the size of the dog and the amount of chocolate ingested.
If your dog does get into an Easter basket, contact your vet immediately. Without veterinary attention, chocolate poisoning can lead to death.
So go ahead and enjoy your basket of delights this Easter, but don’t be tempted to give in to Fido’s begging.
